With temperatures well over 100 plus today out to the East of me, I thought I’d write about the heat and how to overcome it. When it’s cold I can manage, but the heat knocks my socks off every time. Both extremes can kill us, but the heat is so much harder to manage. So, if you are chillin by the air conditioner today, read this for future reference. So much has been going on and I have wanted to get to this, but circumstances have over shadowed this particular blog post. I am sorry.
So where I live in the Pacific NW, we don’t usually get extreme heat too much in the summer like you guys East of me. We did see a heat wave two years ago that reached 117, I believe and it was a scorcher. It is a fact the weather is morphing into something we don’t want it to and it is getting hotter in my opinion. The Earth is a never ending sphere that’s constantly changing and evolving. The fact that “someone” probably plays with the weather, makes no never mind. 🤬
So I am writing this today also because we are looking at a swamp cooler for the little home we live in. I’m talking we need to cool about 400 square feet of area, maybe 500 feet. Does anyone have a swamp cooler? Can you advise me on one? Drop a comment below and let me know. I tried the ice block in front of the fan a week ago when it was 98 degrees and it worked a little. For how hot it was, I was glad it helped a little bit. I had to literally sit in front of it, but for those of you curious, it did reduce the heat somewhat.
I wanted to share what else helped me. I swear those cooling towels made all the difference. You wet them, ring them out and snap them hard, to activate them. I can report they do cool you off. I almost think they help your core stay cooled down. Just keep repeating the process and keep them cold. I got mine on Amazon for less than $15 for a four pack. Everyone in my family has one. I do not do affiliate links, but attached a picture at the bottom to show you what they look like. I think I hit the jackpot when I found these.
Also, my daughter has been slinging pizzas near a hot oven all year. When it gets hot in Utah it’s super dry. She told me she bought a heat fan that she wears around her neck. I personally have not tried this item, but she has and really likes it. She says it keeps her face and neck from sweating and overall keeps her cooled down. A picture is at the bottom also. These all are Amazon photos, so you should be able to locate these items if need be.
I do not have to tell any of you to keep hydrating yourself. The more you sweat, the more you get dehydrated. This can literally kill you if you aren’t careful. The weather can be such a pain in the butt, but if properly prepared (there’s that word again) you will be fine. Let’s get a jump on this before July and August. I have a feeling this is going to be hell on Earth this summer with the heat.
I just wanted to add a huge thank you to all of you. I got a notification that my blog was number #28 on SubStacks education list as most read blogs. Mind you, I’m just a part time blogger, not professional at all lol. With thousands upon thousands of real professionals writing, I was duly impressed that my blog is being read so much. Thanks so much everyone. If you want to join my paid subscribers, it’s on sale now for $4 a month or 20% off till June 30th. I’m working out the kinks on my podcast and I share that with the paid members. Bear with me while I get my bearings there.
I hope this entry today helps someone stay cool during this season, I’d love to see any comments about what you are doing to stay cool. Be prepared, not scared.
